To me, Yip-Yip has always been a you-have-to-be-there thing. "He was great and I said, 'I want to do that all my life,' but then I got into these bands for a while."ĭon't expect that to happen again any time soon. He maintains an active touring schedule as a troubadour not unlike Pete Seeger, an icon McGuinn saw in concert as a boy. His Folk Den Project celebrated its 10th anniversary with the release of a four-disc boxed set in 2005. McGuinn, meanwhile, will be keeping the spotlight on the traditional folk music that he has been sharing online at. "Gram Parsons got the glory on the last set," McGuinn says, "but now Clarence is coming to the spotlight." For McGuinn, a highlight of the new project is listening to the contributions of guitarist Clarence White, who joined the Byrds in 1968 after the departure of Chris Hillman and Gram Parsons, on live recordings of "Nashville West," "Baby What You Want Me to Do" and "Take a Whiff on Me."
